Baby Boomers are hard workers. Rest is not always on our regular agenda. But, in the words of my grandma Hattie when she was 90 years old, “If I don’t do it now, when will I do it?” Whatever happened to recess? That’s a routine we need to return to as adults. Taking time off to rest, play, or do absolutely nothing would be what the doctor ordered, with a bill. For it is with rest and play that the refreshing comes. That’s when rejuvenation takes place. That’s when we can dream and reflect. That’s when the creativity surfaces. That is when we can reinvent who we are and re-purpose our time and gifts. I went to the beach today with my husband and four of our grandchildren ages 11, 10, 4 and 2. We did not lose anyone but I am accustomed to counting heads before I move from one place to another. Today, while watching them in the water, I counted four heads… all is well. However, a double-take spotted the fourth head was blonde. Oops….. grandda had the other one. That was close :} Even with the close call and not being able to close my eyes, the outing was still very refreshing and restful. One thing is for sure, the outing was planned. I now plan to plan events of escape for my self. If I don’t take care of me I will not be fit to take care of anyone else! Baby-boomers need to internalize the importance of coming apart before we come apart. Rest – Reset – Rejuvenate!
