VERDONDA ALEXANDER WRIGHT is the only daughter and youngest of two children born to the late Samuel and Joanna Alexander. She is a native of Norfolk, VA and a product of that school system graduating from Lake Taylor High School. She graduated magna cum laude from Norfolk State University with a B.S. degree in Consumer Services and Family Studies Education. She also earned a M.Ed. from Averett University in Curriculum and Instruction and an additional M.Ed. from Strayer University with a degree in Adult Education and Development. She has taught over twenty- five years spanning middle, high and technical schools. Currently, she is a family and consumer science instructor at Green Run High School in Virginia Beach. She is a certified secondary culinary educator and certified safety and sanitation instructor. As a teacher, she is proudest of one of her students returning to her high school after graduation from college to teach with her and the nominations by her students for five consecutive years to Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers.
Verdonda is passionate about the family, Baby-boomers, women’s issues, and parenting. She has presented at numerous workshops and church conferences, college campuses and school divisions. Professional affiliations include American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Virginia Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the National Restaurant Association. She loves cooking and gardening with her grandchildren, decorating, reading and writing. She has co-authored two books; Young Woman’s Guide to Personal Success (for teen girls) and Baby Boomer’s Handbook for Women.
With retirement being only a few years away, she is interested in the journey of reinventing and re-purposing her gifts, talents and time. Verdonda desires the second half of her life to be heavy with favor and service. She in inspired to help baby-boomers live life to the fullest learning how to say “no” and when to say “yes”.
She has been a minister’s wife for 36 years, and 24 of those years her husband has been a pastor. She is the Director of Christian Education at Victorious Living Ministries Church of God in Christ, where her husband is senior pastor. She married Elder Timothy E. Wright July 21, 1979 and three children were added to this union by birth and three by marriage, Kimberly and her husband Bobby, Dedra and her husband Clinton, and Timothy, Jr. and his wife Athena.
